National Gallery  - Kvadrat 500 apply for the European Museum of the Year Award 2017 (EMYA). Founded in 1977 by the European Museum Forum under the auspices of the Council of Europe, this award goes to a renovated or redeveloped museums which contribute most directly to attracting audiences and satisfying its visitors with unique atmosphere, imaginative interpretation and presentation, a creative approach to education and social responsibility.

The awarded in the last few years are: POLIN -  Museum of the History of Polish Jews, Warsaw, Poland (2016), Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam (2015), Museum of Innocence in Turkey (2014), Scotlands Museum of Transport and Travel (2013), Museo de Madinat al-Zahra in Cordoba in Spain (2012), Gallo-Roman Museum in Tongeren, Belgium (2011).
